We Owe You An Apology

The past few weeks have been rough. WRMD has been slow, sometimes painfully so, and we know that has made your work harder at exactly the times you needed it to be easier. For every page that took too long to load while you had an animal on the table, for every form that froze mid-admission, for every report that wouldn't finish: we're sorry.

The work you do matters. You're caring for animals that have nowhere else to turn, often during the busiest weeks of your year. The last thing you should be fighting with is the software meant to help you. We've felt that weight, and it's why we've been working around the clock to make things right.

What Happened, In Plain Language

Some of what slowed WRMD down was our fault. A handful of changes we made over the past several weeks introduced performance problems that didn't show up in our testing. We've spent the last several weeks rewriting the slow parts, fixing the bugs, and adding new safety checks so the same thing can't happen again.

Some of what slowed WRMD down was out of our control. Two large outages on the internet infrastructure we rely on — a service incident at our hosting provider (https://status.laravel.cloud/incidents/8ty0m8545y97) and a major AWS outage that affected a huge swath of the internet in May (https://mashable.com/article/amazon-web-services-outage-may-2026-cause-resolved) — knocked WRMD offline or made it sluggish even when our own code was healthy. Those events were out of our hands, but they affected you, and that matters.

We believe the slowness is now resolved. WRMD has been responsive and stable in our monitoring for days, and we'll keep watching closely. If you're still seeing slowness in your workflow, please tell us — your reports are the fastest way for us to spot anything we've missed.

A Look At What's New

While we were fixing things behind the scenes, we were also building. Three new features have landed recently that we're excited to share:

  • Required fields — You can now mark which fields your organization considers required at intake, exam, and outcome. WRMD will flag missing data on the forms your team fills out every day.

  • Curated species list — Tired of scrolling past Red-lored Amazons when you're a songbird-only rehab in Vermont? You can now curate the species that appear in the patient autocomplete so the list only shows what's actually relevant to your work.

  • Patient audit log — A new view on every patient that shows who changed what and when, including tag additions and removals. Useful for training, for accountability, and for the inevitable "wait, who edited this?" moments.

Thank you for your patience, for your trust, and for the work you do every day. We'll keep earning both.
