WRMD Best Practices
This page lists tips and tricks for using WRMD to its full capacity. We will continue to update it with new tips weekly.
Tip #1:Be sure to select an actual species from the drop-down list when admitting a patient.
Entries like “baby” or “fawn” can create challenges for data tracking and reporting. The drop down list is designed to standardize species information across the system, helping your team make the most of your data. Use the "age” field to record life stage.
Tip #2: Use Built-In Fields Whenever Possible
For our WRMD Pro users, It can be tempting to create custom fields to track information in a slightly different way, but before you do, check whether a built-in field already exists.
Using WRMD’s standard fields helps keep your data consistent with other organizations and ensures your information can be included in reports, analytics, and shared datasets.
Reserve custom fields for information that is truly unique to your organization. Consistency today makes your data more powerful tomorrow.
Tip #3: Resolve “Unrecognized Patients” Regularly 🔍
If a patient shows up as “unrecognized,” it usually means the species name wasn’t selected from WRMD’s standardized list.
Taking a few minutes to review and correct unrecognized patients helps ensure your records are included in reports and analytics—and keeps your data accurate and searchable.
A quick check now can save time later, especially when generating annual reports or sharing data with partners.
